Study in USA - TOEFL for International Students
Why Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)?
TOEFL is the first step for any international student who wants to continue his/her study at a American university, college or any other educational institution.
You need to demonstrate your English language proficiency by getting the minimum TOEFL score required by the educational institution to which you apply for admission. You must be able to understand what your teacher, instructor or professor is saying and the contents of your textbooks.
There is no one single minimum level for TOEFL score as each school or college has its own minimum score.
How can you increase your chances by taking or without taking TOEFL?
You have several options:
- apply to a community college. In general, community colleges have lower minimum score requirements.
- find a community college that admits you without taking TOEFL. You can take TOEFL after attending community college's English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. You will be able to get a better school after attending ESL courses.
- visit websites of a number of universities and colleges and check their minimum score requirements. You will be surprised to see how different scores they have for foreign students. Apply to a university or college that has lower TOEFL score requirement.
Very first step before TOEFL: Certified English translation of your diploma and transcript
You need to have English your diploma and transcript translated and certified to apply to a U.S. college or university. All American universities and colleges require word-for-word translation of your diploma and transcript.
